La caña de azúcar como alimento funcional

Sugar cane cultivation is traditionally used as a source for sucrose. Recent research shows properties of sugarcane that affect the health of consumers. The aim of this review is to present some functional properties of sugar cane, their products and derivatives. Metabolites with functional activity in bagasse, juice and leaves were found. Sugar cane is a good source of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals; has a prophylactic effect against bacteria and viruses, protective effect against caries and is an excellent sports drink. It is important to generate research that contributes to identify new compounds in sugarcane with functional activity
