El Sistema Agroindustrial Localizado de piloncillo en la Huasteca potosina

In the last three years, the Huastecan Center for Rural Development (a non-profit organization whose Spanish acronym is CHDRAC) and the Chapingo Autonomous University have supported the producers of piloncillo in the municipalities of Tancanhuitz, Aquismón and Tampamolón, in the state of San Luis Potosí. This action is intended to prepare producers for a better participation in the markets. The support has taken the form of training programs, technology transfer and organization processes, which could facilitate the passage from industrial piloncillo sugar cones to white, granulated and innocuous ones, as well as to organic production. This work has been financially enhanced by the Ministry of Social Development (SEDESOL) through the Productive Opportunities Program and the scheme of Local Development Agency (LDA). Ten groups of production were constituted in local societies and at a company called Integradora de Piloncillo de la Huasteca S.A. de C.V. Likewise, other actions were promoted, for example, the change of sugar cane varieties with seedbeds, the improvement of grinding equipment, collection centers and a marketing program, together with employee savings funds and microcredit loans. This document analyzes some of the main results by using the approach of Local Agroindustrial System (LAS)
